HARCO delivered a fully automated tagline system for installation of blades and nacelle with rotor during the DOT FOX Project in September and October 2021.
The project was executed safely and efficiently according to schedule. The HARCO DP Tagline system assisted Heerema in validating proof of concept by safely controlling the WTG components at all given windspeeds.
HARCO’s scope within the project, was to deliver the fully automated tagline system with interface for Sleipnir’s crane pedestal, and two equipment specialists to operate the system. The tagline system was integrated in an open container, enabling an easy and safe mobilization onboard Sleipnir.
– This unique proof of concept project, has been a great opportunity for HARCO in illustrating our competencies in the offshore WTG installation business, meanwhile learning even more about floating installation. Engagement in the DOT project has enabled us to verify that our HARCO DP Tagline System features and capacity are compliant with the enhanced dynamics during floating installation operations. It has been an impressive project to be a part of, and we are proud and humble, for the selection as partner for Heerema Marine Contractors. Based on this we will continue to develop new equipment, and hope the collaboration with HMC will continue and that the project will open new doors for us, says Henrik Harkes, CEO at HARCO.
About DOT FOX Project
The project was about testing floating installation of XXL turbines offshore. It was the first offshore test of a novel method of assembling and installing XXL wind turbines onboard a floating, dynamically positioned vessel. The test included Heerema’s GREP Tool for installing blades onboard the vessel, as well as the slip joint connection which can reduce the number of bolted flanges during turbine installation.
Furthermore, Heerema tested the Vibro Lifting Tool, to remove the monopile used for testing. All of this put together will make it possible to reduce the installation time for offshore wind turbines significantly.
