Heerema awarded HARCO the contract for delivering tagline winches for the Arcadis Ost 1 wind farm. Furthermore, Heerema has invested in the “black box” for simulating HARCO’s tagline system in their state-of-the-art Simulation Center in Leiden, the Netherlands.

Back in late 2021, HARCO successfully executed the FOX project with Heerema and other research partners. Thereafter, Heerema chose HARCO to deliver a complete Tagline System to the Arcadis Ost 1 wind farm as well. For this project, HARCO’s rental unit, the 8mT DP Tagline System, was mounted on an interface frame on the crane vessel Thialf. The interface frame used for mounting has been designed specifically for this project to fit the platform on the crane and to withstand the requested loads applied from the winches.

To ensure a fast and safe mobilization of the HARCO system onboard Thialf, HARCO delivers manpower as well. Our team has therefore been onboard together with Heerema’s offshore team and crane operators.

It has been a pleasure to have HARCO onboard Thialf. The mobilization went well, and the DP Tagline System operates very smoothly and with great precision. The guys have great know-how in lifting operations and tagline handling, providing us with good support from day one.”

Thijs Postma

Project Manager, Heerema

At the Arcadis Ost 1 wind farm, Heerema’s RNA (Rotor Nacelle Assembly) method is utilized. Having HARCO’s patented DP Tagline System mounted on the crane ensures full control when assembling the turbines. By assembling the rotor and nacelle onboard before lifting the assembled piece to the turbine gives the project less challenging lifts from a floating vessel to the tower in the sea.

To optimize the training of their operators, Heerema has invested in a black box to simulate the HARCO Tagline System at the Simulation Center in Leiden.

By integrating the Harco system in our Simulation center, we created the opportunity to train our crew and crane operators to use the HARCO Tagline System prior to the project. It really enabled all crew involved to familiarize themselves with this new system prior to execution, ensuring a smooth start offshore.”

About Arcadis Ost 1
The wind farm is located in the Baltic Sea, 19 km northeast of the island Rügen, Germany.

In total 27 Vestas V174 wind turbines will be installed to deliver 257 MW.

At the location there are challenging soil conditions and up to 45 m water depths, why a floating turbine installation method is utilized.
