Jan De Nul has chosen HARCO for delivering a DP tagline system for launching their new intertidal trenching vehicle named “Moonfish”.

HARCO has assisted Jan De Nul in executing the first launch of their intertidal trenching vehicle “Moonfish” on TenneT’s Hollandse Kust Noord and West Alpha export cable systems project, off the coast of IJmuiden in the Netherlands. The first launch of the trencher was controlled by the HARCO DP 4,5mT tagline system, with a HARCO operator supervising and training the onboard crew in how to operate the tagline system.

The first launch and recovery of the 250t Moonfish was executed safely and efficient, and with optimal control opportunities.

We are excited for being a part of this new-technology project, and to explore our opportunities within launch of trenching vehicles. We are humbled of being chosen as the preferred supplier for this project, which gives us a great opportunity to learn about launch of trenching vehicles, and to optimize our tagline systems to handle this type of loads. We hope this cooperation will result in further collaboration with Jan De Nul, and within this interesting area of handling trenching vehicles offshore.”

The current project with the HARCO winches launching the vehicle is currently being executed. The Moonfish was fully commissioned on January 22, and is now trenching cables for the upcoming offshore wind farm: Hollandse Kust Noord.
