Heerema continues complex offshore wind installations with HARCO’s Compensated Tagline System
Following positive experiences with previous HARCO systems, Heerema purchased a Compensated Tagline System in 2024 for a specific offshore wind project onboard Thialf. Now, with the original project successfully completed, the system remains in operation, supporting offshore wind installation across new projects.
HARCO’s Compensated Tagline System was developed to meet the increasing demands of modern offshore wind projects, where larger components and more complex lifting operations require greater control, speed, and precision.
Designed for both floating and fixed installations, the system enhances a vessel’s ability to operate in challenging offshore conditions. Its 230 kN high-speed winches, combined with advanced control software, provide precise load stabilisation and positioning throughout the lifting operation – even in harsh weather and complex installation environments.

After successfully completing two offshore wind projects with HARCO’s other systems in 2022 and 2023, choosing HARCO’s Compensated Tagline System in 2024 was a natural next step for Heerema.
Since then, the system has supported the installation of large offshore wind components, including monopiles and transition pieces, onboard their second-largest crane vessel, Thialf. Compared to traditional tugger systems, it has enabled Heerema to carry out installation operations with a significantly higher level of control and efficiency.
